Jacob Is Named Israel

9 Then God appeared to Jacob again when he came from Paddan-aram, and He ^ablessed him. 10 ^bGod said to him, “Your name is Jacob;
^{▼▼ Lit Your name}You shall no longer be called Jacob,
But Israel shall be your name.”
Thus He called ^{▼▼ Lit his name}him Israel.

11 God also said to him, “I am ^{▼▼ Heb El Shaddai
,} ^fGod Almighty;
^gBe fruitful and multiply;
A nation and a ^hcompany of nations shall ^{▼▼ Or come into being}come from you,
And ^jkings shall ^{▼▼ Or come into being}come forth from ^{▼▼ Lit your loins}you.
12 ^m“The land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac,
I will give it to you,
And I will give the land to your ^{▼▼ Lit seed}descendants after you.”
